North Korea has confirmed conducting its fifth nuclear test.
Pyongyang says the test was meant to counter US hostilities. It announced that the North is now capable of mounting nuclear warheads on ballistic rockets. The test, which triggered a magnitude five-point-three quake, was the largest compared to the four past quakes associated with North Korea’s nuclear tests. The seismic activity comes on the 68th anniversary of North Korea’s foundation. Pyongyang says it will not quit its nuclear program because of the long-running hostility from Seoul and Washington towards its government.
